“Yes, I've driven by MainStreet Crossing a bunch of times, actually gone in a couple of times and even heard people talk about it”... These are the thoughts and words of many Tomball area residents. MainStreet Crossing is located at 111 W. Main Street in old downtown Tomball. Some people say it is a bar. Others say it is a coffee house, some call it a live entertainment venue. Still others say its a church. So, what is it, anyway? Perhaps we can clear this up by telling a story of how it all actually came about.
It is true that people behind it believe that there really, no kidding, is a god, that he really IS the same God that the Bible talks about. And that there is this amazingly joyful and purpose-filled life that we can live if we put him and his ways at the center of our lives. About five years ago it occurred to this group that many people were missing out on this great life because they were not comfortable setting foot in a church. So we built the building that has become Main Street Crossing, and opened it as a community hangout offering food, drink (including beer and wine), live music entertainment, tournament poker, table-top shuffle board, WiFi, and other great amenities.
As customers enjoy the place, they eventually learn that the people behind it are actually on a spiritual journey and that, in fact, there are 3 different churches who use the building on Sundays (one at 10 AM, one at 4 PM, and one at 6PM). As it turns out, some who have ended up spending time at MainStreet Crossing are those who are dealing with some of life's most difficult problems: addiction, divorce, legal problems, financial collapse, etc. And they often find help at MainStreet Crossing from MainStreet Crossing-regulars who say that one of the keys to living a great life is helping out those who are in desperate trouble. |
So, most of the time, you can come and go at MainStreet Crossing, and it will appear to be a well run business with great food and drink and lots of activities going on. BUT, there is something deeper going on here. It is actually a non-profit organization (the owner says they actually lose a fair amount of money daily) there for the benefit of the community. People come to MainStreet Crossing for all sorts of reasons, or for none at all. Some looking for church, some for community, and some just looking for fun. So, it is not surprising that there is some confusion in our community about what MainStreet Crossing is all about. It's a bundle of different things, all at the same time, making up a very interesting blend of exceptional food, drinks, good times, and great deeds. |
